How to Help your Child Develop Language Skills

Parents play a very important role in developing a child’s language skills. Studies have shown that children who are read to and spoken with a great deal during early childhood will have a strong vocabulary and better grammar sense than others. As claimed by the Preschool La Mirada CA, the following tips may help parents to develop their toddlers’ speech fluency and language skills.

Talk, talk and talk:

Talk to your child. This is the first thing you can do to improve your toddler' s speech fluency. You need to keep on talking to them. Narrate the day as it evolves like 'let’s go for the bath now', ' can you feel the warm water?’, ' we will go out in the evening to buy some chocolate' etc.

Read to them:

Reading is a good way to develop language skills in toddlers. You can start reading to your kids with some simple picture storybooks and gradually move to longer storybooks.

Enjoying music together:

Music makes kids aware of the world around them and the rhythm of language. Listening to some lively songs like “baby shark do do dododododo”, or “daddy finger daddy finger where are you” help kids develop their language acquisition skills.

Storytelling:

In Preschool of Rowland Heights CA, teachers do storytelling sessions with children as it helps kids to develop a strong vocabulary and understand their usage. They tell stories with one or more characters, conflicts, some adventures, and a happy ending.

Don’t criticize your child’s articulations:

Instead of criticizing your child’s articulations or speech patterns try to repeat his statements back to him with correct pronunciation and word usage.

Praise your child:

You should always praise your child for his efforts. If he is trying to say or read a sentence; then appreciate his efforts. While trying if he is making any mistake, try to correct him and encourage him to speak or read confidently without thinking much about being right or wrong.

Explore the world:

Preschool of La Mirada CA, teachers involve children in different activities so that they get enough opportunity to explore the world. In the process, they will gather knowledge about different topics around them and may feel confident to talk about various things.
